While gluten-free burgers are seriously on-trend right now, with restaurant after restaurant beginning to offer gluten-free buns, the one thing I’m still missing is gluten-free hot dogs. Whether I’m walking past the little van in front of Churchill Square in Brighton, wandering around the winter markets with delicious-smelling Bratwurst everywhere or just going to the cinema, I find myself pining after hot dogs.
Yes, of course, I can put a gluten-free sausage in a roll but it’s just not the same. It’s the BUN that makes the hot dog, right? That’s why I was pretty excited to spot these gluten-free finger rolls from Udi’s UK in Tesco.
After failing to locate any “fresh” hot dog sausages at all, I scoured the tins aisle – poring over the labels of cans and jars – until I finally found a GF brand, Wikinger, which state that they are suitable for coeliacs. Then I grabbed Tesco’s own ketchup and picnic mustard – both of which have no gluten-containing ingredients.
The result? THIS:
Yep, they tasted as good as they look. I think I’ve just found my new go-to comfort meal…
