I first came across Delicious Alchemy at the Allergy & Free From Show back in July, where I sampled a little taster of their gluten-free brownie mix. Yes, I know, another gluten-free brownie. I hold my hands up to the fact that I’ve griped at length about how this is the go-to GF dessert and that it shows a lack of imagination, but sometimes you come across a chocolate brownie that is SO DAMN GOOD that you’re willing to forgive this.
Delicious Alchemy has such a brownie. You would NEVER guess it was a packet mix. And you’d never guess that it was dairy-free too.
When I tried a sample at the Allergy Show I think I was suffering a little from cake fatigue, so I was delighted when the brand got in touch to ask whether I’d like to review the mixture for the blog. They also sent me a pack of the white bread mix, which I haven’t got round to making yet. I definitely will soon though – I hope it lives up to the expectations of this one!
The first thing to mention is how easy this mix is to make. All you need are two large eggs and 100g of butter in addition to the pack – then you just melt the butter, add it to the mix, give it a good stir, add the eggs, stir it again and bake for 20 minutes. Voilà!
If you’re wondering what the green monstrosity is on top, I took the brownie into work for a Halloween bake sale so I had to make it suitably ghoulish! Pretty much everyone in the office – including the gluten-eaters – asked me for the recipe as they enjoyed it so much. It was at this point that I had to confess I was not a domestic goddess and that it was, in fact, a packet mix. RUMBLED.
In addition to baking and bread mixes, Delicious Alchemy also have a range of gluten-free breakfast products including muesli, oats and rice porridge. Along with the white bread and brownie mixes, I was also sent some of their gluten-free oats. They were fantastic when it came to making one of my favourite breakfasts: ‘Overnight Oats’ – just soak them in yoghurt and a splash of milk overnight, add some fruit, nuts or granola in the morning and you’ve got an instant, fuss-free, healthy breakfast.
Although I was gifted these samples for the purpose of review, all words and opinions are honest and are my own. For more info, see this blog’s disclosure policy.
